Years from now, hearing those opening notes should transport you straight back to that moment. The doors opening. The first glimpse of your partner. The emotion in the room. The anticipation. The nerves. The excitement.


Your wedding day will be filled with beautiful memories, but your ceremony music has the power to bring those memories back to life in an instant.

Why Music Matters So Much


Music is one of the few things in life that speaks directly to the soul.


It doesn't matter what language you speak or where you come from. Music is understood by everyone. It creates emotion, builds anticipation, and has the remarkable ability to transport us back to specific moments in our lives.


Many of us can hear a song from our teenage years and instantly remember where we were when we first heard it.


Your wedding song becomes part of your story in exactly the same way.


My own wedding song was Jessica's Theme from The Man From Snowy River. It was played on the piano and, even now, more than twenty years later, hearing it instantly takes me back to that moment.


That's the power of music.

The Most Emotional Wedding Song I've Ever Heard


One of the most emotional ceremony entrances I've ever photographed was set to Cinema.


As Hollie began walking towards Mike, the music filled the room and the atmosphere completely changed.

I remember looking around and seeing guests reaching for tissues. It was one of the most romantic wedding ceremony entrances I have ever witnessed.


The emotion was palpable.


To this day, whenever I hear that song, I immediately think of their wedding.

Another unforgettable moment came during a ceremony where the bride walked down the aisle to Kiss The Girl by Brent Morgan.


The church doors opened.

She stepped inside wearing a beautiful flower crown.

The groom looked up and instantly burst into tears.

The guests followed.

It was one of those moments that reminds me exactly why I love photographing weddings.

Your ceremony song doesn't simply accompany the moment.

It becomes part of the memory forever.

More Than Just One Song


Many couples focus entirely on the bride's entrance song, but there are actually several opportunities throughout the ceremony to use music.


The Groom's Entrance

Some couples choose a song for the groom and groomsmen as they make their entrance.

This can be a fun way to set the tone and build anticipation before the bridal party arrives.


The Bridesmaids' Entrance

You may wish to choose a different piece of music for your bridesmaids.

This allows your own entrance song to feel even more significant when it begins.


The Bride's Entrance

This is the big moment.

The moment everyone stands.

The moment your partner sees you.

The moment many couples remember forever.

Choose a song that feels personal rather than simply following trends.

Live Music Or A Playlist?

This is another question I hear regularly from couples planning their wedding.


String Quartet

If you've ever watched Bridgerton, you'll know exactly how magical modern songs can sound when performed by a string quartet.


Acoustic Musician

An acoustic guitarist or pianist can create a wonderfully intimate atmosphere.

This option often works beautifully for vineyard weddings, coastal weddings and outdoor ceremonies.


Recorded Music

There's absolutely nothing wrong with pressing play on a carefully curated playlist.

In fact, many couples prefer it because they can use the exact version of the song they fell in love with.

Creating a Spotify playlist also allows you to carefully plan every musical moment throughout your day.


If you've already listened to the playlist above, you'll notice many of the songs work beautifully in several different formats. The same song can feel completely different when performed by a string quartet, acoustic guitarist, pianist, or played through a professional sound system.

Indoor Or Outdoor Ceremony?


Before choosing your music, think about where your ceremony is taking place.

A song that sounds incredible in a cathedral or grand hotel ballroom can create a completely different atmosphere outdoors.


If you're still deciding between an indoor and outdoor ceremony, it's worth considering how your music, guest experience, weather plans, and venue choice may influence your decision.


Outdoor ceremonies also require a little more planning when it comes to sound equipment, speakers and weather considerations.

One Important Timing Tip


Here's something many couples don't realise.

Your walk down the aisle is often much shorter than you think.

Depending on the venue, your aisle walk may only last 20 to 40 seconds.

For that reason, I often recommend starting the music before you actually make your entrance.

Your dress can be adjusted.

Your train laid out perfectly.

Your bridesmaids can take their positions.

The music begins.

Anticipation builds.

Then, at a specific point in the song, the doors open.

This often creates a much more powerful and emotional entrance than starting the song the moment you begin walking.
