Golden Hour
why it is the perfect light
From the lake front at Saraguay House, Halifax to the timeless vineyards of Lightfoot & Wolfville, Nova Scotia. No matter where you are in the province your wedding photography will always look their best during golden hour. Let me explain...
Golden hour is known as the period of the day just before the sunsets or after it rises when the light is a little bit redder and softer than usual so it makes your skin glow and creates the most illustrious images. You need to be aware of the time of day, do depending on your wedding ceremony and time of year, this will be important to time carefully in order to get beautiful golden hour wedding photographs.
So how do you do it?
Autumn/Winter weddings - sunset is much earlier, so plan to have your ceremony earlier in the day such as 12pm. This way you can get those important family photographs done during canapés, and then have time to go out with your wedding photographer for 20-30 minutes for your couple portraits.
Spring/Summer weddings - The day is always longer which leaves golden hour sometimes not happening until after the first dance. It is important to plan the time in so you can still nip out for some golden hour pictures. Even if you go out as just the two of you and get your wedding party to join you 15 minutes later with a beer and glass of wine. Ties are usually undone and everyone is a relaxed. This is when they bridal party wedding pictures can get super fun! You asked your besties to be in your wedding for a reason right!
If you are planning to choose a Nova Scotia wedding photographer that loves golden hour light, I promise that is me! I am a lover of light and love creating romantic wedding photographs with the light we are given. There is always beautiful light somewhere.
